MARINE TRAINING ACADEMY (MTA), the brainchild of Dr. S.G. KOLI, Director, was born on 23rd April, 1993 under the name of MARINE MEDICAL ACADEMY (MMA) with the mission to impart First Aid Training to seafarers, thereby assisting them in dispensing proper medical assistance to fellow seafarers in case of a medical emergency, thus helping in minimizing causalities at sea.

Subsequently, with the imposition of various regulations by the International Maritime Organisation (IMO) and with STCW 1978 as amended amendments imposing mandatory training requirements on seafarers, MMA further forayed into training of the seafaring fraternity by expanding their scope of marine training activities in January 1998 by introducing new courses.

The courses conducted at the Academy comply with the requirements of Standards for Training, Certification and Watch keeping STCW 1978 as amended convention are approved by the Director General of Shipping, Government of India.
