  1. PRE-SEA TRAINING COURSE FOR RATINGS (G.P.) HIGHLIGHTS:

    The duration of the Pre-Sea Training Course For Ratings (G.P.) is 6 months. The course is fully residential as per the Directorate General of Shipping norms, requiring all the trainees to reside in-house. 

    The course will cover all aspects of the sea-faring profession (Deck and Engine), which also include swimming, physical drills, workshop training, rope and mast climbing, life saving and fire fighting   exercises and ship visits etc.

    Pre Sea Training for Ratings will also include the basic STCW 95 courses along with OTFC

    • Personal Survival Techniques (PST).

    • Personal Safety and Social Responsibility (PSSR).

    • Fire Prevention and Fire Fighting (FPFF).

    • Elementary First Aid (EFA).

    • Oil Tanker Familiarization Course. (OTFC)

    BATCHES:   Every 1st date of JAN & JULY of the year.

    The above fees have to be paid in full at the time of admission, by Demand Draft only, drawn in favor of “Marine Training Academy, Trust”, and payable at Mumbai on any Nationalized Bank.

    ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA FOR ADMISSION

    Age Limit

    Admission is open to all Indian citizens, who are between the ages of 171/2  to 20 years on the date of commencement of the course.

    Academic Qualification

    Minimum educational qualification is a pass in the S.S.C / 10th or its equivalent exam from any recognized board, with English, Science and Mathematics as subjects. Aggregate/ overall percentage must not be less than 40% and in ENGLISH subject minimum required is 40% either in 10th/12th exams.

    Candidates with higher educational qualifications will be given preference in selection.

     ADMISSION PROCEDURE

    Candidates desirous to join the 6 months Pre-Sea Residential Training will have to apply to MTA on the prescribed from, when the advertisement appears in leading newspapers. The candidates should submit completed application form along with the following documents:

    • 4 - Attested copies of School leaving Certificate.

    • 4 - Attested copies of S.S.C. / higher Certificate.

    • 4 - Attested copies of S.S.C. / higher Mark sheet.

    • 4 - Recent colour photographs. (Size: 40 mm X 30 mm).

    • 2 - Attested copies of Birth Certificate & Passport if available.

    • Any other Certificates of higher educations.

    • All the copies should be attested by School / College Principal only.

    The completed application form should reach the Academy on or before the specified date in the advertisement, through registered post/courier/personally.

    MODE OF SELECTION

    1. After collecting and scrutinizing the applications, the Marine Training Academy Selection Board will issue call letters to the short-listed candidates.
       
    2. Short-listed candidates will be called to report at the Academy on the date mentioned in the call-letter. The candidates have to undergo a written test or viva voice or both. They will be tested on the basis of their attitude and aptitude towards seafaring profession, ability to communicate in English, general comprehension and seafaring background, if any.
       
    3. Marine Training Academy reserves the right to select or reject any candidate without specifying any reason. 
       
    4. The candidates who quality in the final test will be subjected to a Physical Fitness/Medical/Eyesight examination as per Merchant Shipping (Medical Examination) Rules, 2000 by the doctors approved by D.G. Shipping, fees bourn by candidate.
       
    5. As soon as the Medical Examination is over the selected candidates must be able to take admission by paying the course fees. If failed to do so, the seat will be offered to candidates on the waiting list.

    The fees once paid will not be refunded or transferred to any other candidate’s account. 

    CAUTION

    Any suppression of truth, mis-representation of facts or submission of false certificates will result in cancellation of admission, forfeiture of fees and shall be punishable as per law. Fees once paid will not be refunded under any circumstances.

    FINAL EXAMINATION

    A mid-term examination will be conducted halfway through the training and warning letters sent to parents of trainees who remain deficient in the examination.

    At the end of the 6 months course trainees will have to appear in final examinations, conducted by DGS, Board of Examination for Seafarers. Candidate who fail in the final examination will have to re-sit with total three attempts as per the rules of DGS.

    Examination fees to be paid by candidate 1 month prior to the date of the exam is announced.

    ISSUE OF CDC

    After completing the Pre-Sea Training (G.P.) and STCW’95 Basic Safety Courses, the successful trainees are eligible to obtain the Continuous Discharge Certificate (CDC) from the Shipping Master, Government of India. The Academy will provide required assistance to the individual candidates to obtain the CDC.

    JOB PROSPECTS

    After passing out from the academy and obtaining the CDC from the Shipping Master, Mumbai, the trainees qualify to take up employment as seamen aboard a ship of Indian or Foreign flag on their own. 

    With further sea-service, these ratings may be promoted as Seaman Helmsman, Able Bodied Seaman or Motorman and also to the Officer’s level, subject to certain D.G. Shipping requirements. The Academy shall GUIDE the passing-out trainees in obtaining suitable jobs.

     ACADEMY RULES AND REGULATIONS:

    1. These Standing Rules and Regulations of the Academy shall be binding on all trainees. These may be amended without prior intimation to the trainees.
    2. Gold ornaments or other valuable items or any kind of electrical appliances are not allowed to be kept in the trainees’ possession.
    3. Trainees are not allowed to keep more than about Rs. 1000/- in cash with them. Extra cash should be deposited with the Warden and can be withdrawn in lots of Rs. 500/-
    4. Uniform is to be worn at all times during training. Hence, very few civilian clothes are to be brought along. Uniforms will be supplied within a week of joining.
    5. Trainees are permitted “Liberty” on Sundays between 0900 and 1900 hours.
    6. Trainees are not permitted to stay out of the campus overnight under any circumstances. Parents are requested not to make any request for the same.
    7. Visitors are permitted only on Sundays, between 1000 and 1800 hours.
    8. The use of tobacco, drugs and alcohol is strictly prohibited in the Academy. Defaulters will be dealt with severely.
    9. Long hair, moustaches and beards are not permitted during the period of training. Sikh candidates are exempted from this.
    10. The training should not be affected by personal and religious practices of the trainees, who are free to exercise the same during their free time only.
    11. If any damage is caused to the property of the Academy, it will be made good by the trainees, the expenses of the same being shared equally by all trainees.
    12. Discipline is one of the topmost priorities in training. It may be noted that any cases of indiscipline will be dealt with very strictly and the decision of the Principal will be final and binding.
    13. In the event a trainee has to leave the course due to his own fault or due to any other reason whatsoever, no refund will be given for any monies already paid to the Academy.
